The Outward Bound Trust
The Outward Bound Trust is an outdoor educational organisation. Like Little Landowners, the Outward Bound Trust uses the outdoors to help inspire and educate young people.
Outward Bound courses take place in the natural environment, typically over 3-5 days, well away from the usual, modern distractions. They help to motivate young people who learn to understand the balance between risk, reward and responsibility.
Learning outcomes include
- Setting and achieving goals
- Listening and communicating effectively
- Facing a challenge with determination
- Cooperation and teamwork
- Maintaining a positive outlook
- Effective leadership skills
These skills have been shown to have a positive impact on the future success of young people. This is evidenced in their education, employment and their overall wellbeing.
Courses in Scotland take place at Loch Eil, near Fort William.
The Trust also provides education resources, such as this educational poster about forests and woodland. https://www.outwardbound.org.uk/media/1109/obt-poster-forestswoodland-final-lores.pdf
